The choice of free range eggs seems obvious, but why go free range for economics?
I was looking for a blog name that captured both the economics that I wanted to write about as well as something that said a bit about who I am.
Much existing thought on how the economy worked seems outdated and does not seem to be relevant to the current issues. And the economy no longer seems to do a good job as the basis for a prosperous society. Despite this, economists continued t
o resort to the old ways of doing things, even though the economy has been responding in a way that suggested that something was awry. So I felt the need for a fresh take on economics. Yet rather than discarding it all together, I still see economics as a useful way of looking at the world, but feel that we need to set ourselves free from the old conventions. Free to range (so to speak).
And that is how I live my life in general. I have studied postgrad economics but am no longer involved in academia or neither do I work in a job remotely related to economics. Instead I work freelance so that allows me to travel, but more importantly, time to read and contemplate what is going on in the world. And while we continue to enjoy relative prosperity, I do, as do many, feel the need for change but not sure what that change might be. So I thought I could see if I could come up with anything useful. Hopefully, a version of economics that could be seen as more nutritious, wholesome, and better for us. After all, if chickens can be left to roam free and do their business, why shouldn’t we?
